Coffee Machine Cleaning and Maintenance Tips
General Tips
- Use fresh, clean drinking water (preferably filtered) to reduce scale buildup and improve taste.
- Empty the drip tray and used coffee grounds container daily to prevent odors and bacteria.
- Wipe the exterior, buttons, and coffee spouts with a soft cloth—avoid abrasive scrubbers.
- Run a quick hot-water rinse cycle after making coffee (especially after milk-based drinks) to keep internal lines clean.
- Use only machine-safe cleaners and follow your model’s manual for recommended products and settings.
- Rinse the brew group (if removable) with lukewarm water and let it air-dry before reinserting.
- Clean the coffee spout and surrounding area to prevent oil buildup and clogging.
- If your coffee machine has a milk system, run the milk rinse/clean program immediately after use.
- Wash milk tubes, frother parts, and milk container with mild detergent; dry thoroughly.
- Wash the drip tray, water tank, and used-grounds container with mild dish soap; rinse well and dry.
- Clean the brew group more thoroughly (if removable): rinse and gently wipe away coffee residue—do not use soap unless your manual permits it.
- Clean the grinder area (if accessible) using a soft brush to remove coffee dust—do not pour water into the grinder.
- Wipe the bean hopper lid and seals to keep beans fresh and prevent oily residue buildup.
- Descale as per your machine’s alert or every 4–12 weeks depending on water hardness and usage.
- Use the manufacturer-recommended descaler; avoid vinegar unless your manual explicitly allows it (it may damage seals in some machines).
- Run cleaning tablets/programs for the brew circuit as recommended to remove coffee oils and maintain smooth extraction.
- Store the machine in a dry, ventilated area and keep vents clear for proper cooling and long life.
- If coffee flow becomes slow or weak, clean the spouts, run a rinse cycle, and check whether descaling is due.
- If milk froth quality reduces, fully clean the frother parts and ensure no dried milk is blocking the nozzle.
- Avoid leaving water in the tank for long periods—refresh it daily for best taste and hygiene.
- Use fresh beans and keep the hopper closed to reduce moisture exposure and grinder issues.
